NYFW: Rebecca Minkoff F/W ’16

Before I start talking about Rebecca Minkoff, as a disclaimer, I must mention that I generally disapprove of fringe. I think fringe can be done well but cheap fringe (in my opinion) looks tacky and ugly. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the fringe in the Rebecca Minkoff show. I thought it was done well, mostly because it wasn’t overused and when it was, it was used as an accent andnot the main show. I loved the focus on whites and taupes even though it was a Fall/Winter show and the lavender-grey pieces will definitely hit the Forever21 shelves soon.

The ’70’s lace-up on the bottom of the dress in Look #11 was my favorite use of the newly-revamped trend (above).

NYFW: Prabal Gurung F/W 16

After mourning my absence from New York Fashion Week and looking at every #NYFW tweet, Snapchat story or Periscope  through my tears, I decided to watch as many shows as were available online, scanning for trends and wearable looks. I enjoyed all the shows but I didn’t want to mix and match looks so I put each designer in their own post, each featuring my favorite looks from this season’s show.

Prabal Gurung was one of my favorite shows, one I would have DIED to attend. I loved everything about it, I loved the simple, calm music, I loved the sleek and basic but looks-like-you-woke-up-on-time ponytails each of the models wore. The transition in garments from (stay with me here) white → blue → grey → black → taupe → black/white → black → deep plum → red → green → black/white, was interesting. I know it seems like I’m reading too much into the colors and they weren’t organized but trust me, they were and they made a beautiful gradient.

My favorite pieces came towards the end of the show. Lately, I’ve been loving small details, whether it be beads or sequins or embroidery- I love it. The use of neutrals with strategically placed sequins, beads and gold leaf make my heart complete.
